The Whitman-Hanson Regional School District (WHRSD) is seeking a level-service budget for Fiscal Year 2026 as part of the proposed $3 million override on the Annual Town Election ballot.
If the override is defeated at the ballot, the WHRSD’s assessment will be reduced by $940,000 in Hanson, and the District anticipates having to cut about 24 positions — 14 teachers, eight paraprofessionals and two administrators.
The budget reduction would also include about $250,000 from the athletics budget, forcing the District to consider raising fees to offset costs.
This year’s budget increase is attributed to rising health insurance costs, special education expenses, contractual salary obligations and increased general maintenance costs.
Residents will vote on the Proposition 2 1/2 ballot question during the Annual Town Election on May 17.
