Hanson Budget FAQ: Why does the Fire Department need to increase shift sizes?

Hanson residents will vote on the Fiscal Year 2026 budget at the Annual and Special Town Meeting on May 5. The warrant includes a proposed override article. This is a frequently asked question.

QUESTION: Why does the Fire Department need to increase shift sizes?

ANSWER: The Hanson Fire Department is seeing a rise in call volume each year. In particular, the number of simultaneous calls is steadily increasing. In 2024, there were multiple calls 46% of the time there was a call. The Fire Department has less staffing than most area departments with a similar call volume.
